Brockenhurst or Brokenhurst, New Forest?

Hats off to Matt Callaghan at Business Development Officer for New Forest Business Partnership at New Forest District Council. He followed up a twitter discussion were were having the other day with @newforestnpa about the origin of the spelling of Brockenhurst, when previously it had been called Brokenhurst.

He told us:

I’d heard that the c in Brockenhurst came about from when the railway was put in place also. It went back to when the maps, timetables and signs were produced which contained the ‘wrong’ spelling.

Rather than going through the lengthy and costly process of re-printing, it was decided to pay each of the residents a fee to accept the name change.

This was accepted by all with the exception of the golf club which remains Brokenhurst Golf club to this day!

Thanks to Matt for the explanation. All extra info about the origins of the name and spelling gratefully accepted.

Tree O’Clock trees planted

Here’s the trees we planted for the BBC Breathing Spaces Tree O’Clock campaign.

James planted a Discovery apple tree and Katy planted a Katy apple tree.

They’re in pots for the time being. The plan is to move them to the front of the B&B once we’ve created some space, so that the guests can enjoy them too.

And here’s hoping we have some nice cooking and eating apples for the B&B.

We recently added a skype contact for bookings and enquiries on The Cottage Lodge B&B web site.

Has anyone had any success with customer’s using skype?

Cottage Lodge new gallery pictures

Just posted new gallery pictures of the B&B on the Cottage Lodge web site after having our photographer in today. We like to let the pictures tell the story.

We’ve also included pictures from around Brockenhurst and the New Forest.

All our web site visitor stats show that most visitors to the site spend some time on the gallery. Let us know what you think about the pics.
